The Southern African Centre for Infectious Disease Surveillance – Africa Centre of Excellence for Infectious Diseases of Humans and Animals in Eastern and Southern Africa (SACIDS-ACE) will be participating at the Biosafety and Biosecurity Workshop.

In addressing challenges related to biosafety and biosecurity in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) is organizing this workshop for stakeholders to exchange ideas and discuss existing biosafety and biosecurity mechanism presence in the region.

Major four themes are discussed at the workshop including improving the capacity to detect and respond to infectious disease outbreaks, raising education and awareness, ethics review and scientific openness and transparency.

The workshop will take place on 19-20 March 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa and will bring together some 70 representatives including scientists, policymakers, non-government representatives and other key role players in the field from at least 13 countries.
