Postdoctoral fellow in medical virology for an individual interested in zoonotic diseases and clinical research in particular arboviruses.

The candidate will be responsible for the febrile disease of unknown origin project under my guidance as part of the African network for improved diagnostics and epidemiology in collaboration with the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin. This exciting position requires an enthusiastic virologist that is willing to travel, with good coordination and people skills and enjoy training of young scientists and students. The person will be stationed in the Zoonotic Arbo and Respiratory virus Program in the Centre of Viral Zoonoses, Department of Medical Virology, University of Pretoria. Skills in molecular and sero- diagnostics, virology, epidemiology and bioinformatics and experience in realtime PCR and next gen sequencing is required. A good publication record, report writing skills as well as BSL3 experience and registration with the Health Professional council as Medical Scientist would be advantageous.  South African citizens or candidates in possession of South African study or work permits will get first choice due to the urgency to fill the post.
