August 10, 2018–Morogoro. Every year Tanzania celebrates Nane Nane Day on the 8th of August in recognition the important contribution of farmers to the national economy. The 25thAgricultural Exhibition famously known as NaneNane, themed “Wekeza katika Kilimo, Mifugo na Uvuvi kwa Maendeleo ya viwanda’’ meaning “Invest in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries for industrial development”.
SACIDS participated at the Exhibitions which was officially opened by Tanzanian Minister for Industries, Trade and Investment Hon. Charles Mwijage, the event took place between 1-8 August 2017 in Morogoro, Tanzania.
SACIDS booth was privileged visited by the Former Tanzanian President Hon. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and other stakeholders who commended the Centre’s activities n disease surveillance and capacity building to African Scientists.
SACIDS participation aimed at creating public awareness of its activities in research and Training to ensure African societies are protected from infectious diseases through and use of AfyaData mobile applications, Nanopore sequencing and bioinformatics. As a result of the exhibition, SACIDS increased its visibility and potential interest in its works from various stakeholders.
The “Nane Nane” (Farmer’s day) is a one-week annual agricultural fair that takes place from August 1-8 in various regions of Tanzania where farmers and other agricultural stakeholders (e.g. Universities and research institutes, input suppliers or fertilizer producing industries) showcase new technologies, ideas, discoveries and alternative solutions concerning the agricultural sector. This is also a chance for government and private firms to present their services and activities to the public.
